About
Welcome to TAE KWON-DO, the traditional martial art for the modern world! Developed over centuries, Tae Kwon-Do is an evolution of Karate and similar to Kick Boxing but combining traditional disciplines. Its flexible nature means it’s perfect for both older and younger people. Tae Kwon Do training is about learning to discipline your mind as well as your body and TAGB instructors always include elements in their teaching which help their students to develop mentally as well as physically.

A HISTORY OF THE TAE KWON-DO ASSOCIATION OF GREAT BRITAIN (TAGB)
The Tae Kwon Do Association of Great Britain (TAGB) is a nationally recognised Tae Kwon Do organisation in this country. It was formed in 1983 and has since become the founding member of the British Tae Kwon Do Council (BTC) which is recognised by the United Kingdom Sports Council.
TAGB instructors are highly qualified, accredited individuals with many years' experience in teaching mixed classes which often include young children and disability groups. Training in Tae Kwon Do can start at any age. TAGB members start as young as five and recently one of our members gained his fifth dan black belt on his 70th birthday!
Because of its high-kicking, fast-paced style Tae Kwon Do is a thoroughly modern way of getting fit. The TAGB is a great advocate of fun and fitness at an early age and TAGB instructors often work with local schools to teach self-defence. As the largest martial arts organisation in the world the TAGB has over 25,000 accredited members, 600 clubs, and organises seminars with World Masters, demonstrations, and national, regional and international championships every month of the year.
The TAGB is not just concerned with its own development. That is why it has played a leading role in the reunification of British Tae Kwon-Do into one body. In 1988, the TAGB helped found the British Tae Kwon-Do Council (BTC), this being the only governing body of Tae Kwon-Do to be recognised by the Sports Council.
The TAGB also helped found Tae Kwon-Do International, the object of which is to bring together Tae Kwon-Do practioners throughout the World. Tae Kwon-Do International is non-political and it doesn't attempt to dictate to member countries how they must run their affairs. Since its foundation in 1993, Tae Kwon-Do International has grown to become one of the biggest World Tae Kwon-Do bodies. Its World Championships are amongst the largest and best organised and it draws its participation from every contingent.
With clubs throughout the country the TAGB is the ideal organisation for learning a martial art that has evolved through a 3,000 year history to become the newest Olympic sport.

West Midlands Tae Kwon-Do
West Midlands Tae Kwon-Do was founded by Vince Farquharson, and Katie Billingham in 2007 with the opening of the Bewdley and Bloxwich schools in addition to Kidderminster and Dudley. The two instructors worked closely together to develop the areas and promote Tae Kwon-Do to all. Other students of Mr Farquharson’s later became instructors and joined the group, Emily Haslam who opened the Worcester North School, and Mike Meese, who took over at Bloxwich when Ms Billingham opened Hagley. Vince also took on Willenhall school in 2009, bringing the groups total clubs to 7. As a group we offer more flexible training for our members, and a community of students and friends.
SESSIONS, GRADINGS AND COMPETITIONS
Each session will be different from the last. There are many elements which make up TAE KWON-DO:
Patterns
We do patterns which are sequences of movements, mainly attack and defence, set in a logical sequence against one or more imaginary opponents. There are 9 patterns to learn on your journey to black belt.
Line work
Techniques are repeated many times to make them as fast, accurate and powerful as they can possibly be
Pad Work
We drill techniques to pads to maximize power and precision
Fitness
Each session will contain a section to develop your overall physical fitness
Flexibility
Whatever your start point, your flexibility will improve with time, irrelevant of your age.
Sparring
We practise semi-contact sparring with full safety gear. Saftey and student well being is our number one priority. There are many forms of Set Sprring too- orgainsed routines of attack and defence with a partner to work on Focus, Distancing and timing.
Every 3 months you will be eligible to grade, providing you have attended around 2 sessions per week during that time. You will perform your current pattern, line work and set sparring, as well as being tested on some theoretical knowledge relevant to your grade.
We are graded by members of the National TAGB committee, all Masters at 8th Degree Black Belts, who provide independant adjudication across the UK.
It takes approximately 3 years to attain a black belt, with dedicated training.
As a club we compete in regional, national and international events. We have many international titles held with in our club, and you could be next! Competitions are not compulsory but are a great day out. Find out more, click here
