Ghoncheh European Glory

25 year old tkd martial art student Hassan Ghoncheh has been taking the martial arts world by storm since he started 18 months ago. At only 6th Kup Level (5 grades out of ten to black) he already has 2 bronze, 4 silver, and 6 gold medals and trophies under his belt. His latest victories include two silver medals in the European Championships in April and more recently the Gold Trophy in the Welsh Championships last weekend.

The European Championship is a prestigious event entered into by students from all over Europe. They compete in a variety of events including breaking, patterns (set sequences of complex movements), musical patterns, sparring and team sparring. In Ghoncheh’s division there were over 40 contenders who sparred for round after gruelling round of hard hitting blows, challenging both their physical and mental strength. Ghoncheh fought his way to silver, and again was victorious in the patterns division.

The Annual Welsh Championship was held in Cardiff with competitors from across the UK and Ireland and this time Ghoncheh stormed through the rounds to victory, bringing the Gold trophy back home to his Kidderminster Club.

Ghoncheh trains under instructors Vince Farqharson, and Katie Billingham at Kidderminster and Bewdley Schools respectively, putting in around 10 hours hard training in every week. He has his sights set on another Gold in the Midlands Championships in June. Instructor Vince Farquharson said “Anyone can be taught to do the techniques, it is due to an individuals determination that makes them a champion. We are very proud of Hassan, he deserves the Gold”.
